This team building exercise is focused on expression and reflection. Seat your team in a circle; everyone should be facing outward. There should be one facilitator who asks the questions in a series of rounds, who can also be a participant. Depending on the size of your group, select a number of people that will enter the circle for each round. Everyone sitting should have their eyes closed for as long as they are seated; each chosen participant enters the middle of the circle. Questions, like the ones listed below, are asked and each person in the circle must go around touching the shoulder of as many team members they associate the questions with. After everyone has had an opportunity to be inside the circle, the session ends. Conduct a closing activity by asking each person to reflect on the responses received. Ask each team member how they were affected by the questions each was associated with and what their experiences were inside the circle. Example questions: Who has inspired you to be a better leader? Who has challenged you to think outside of the box? Who has pushed you beyond your comfort zone? Who is very inclusive of those around them? Add fun questions like: Who do you think has a great sense of fashion? Who do you see as a creative person? Who makes you laugh the most? Tips: Tailor your questions to your team and make sure they are positive questions that can be answered subjectively. For example, "Who has inspired you to be a better leader?" Questions like this are personal, yet will not be construed as discriminative. Also, prepare a printed copy of the questions for the facilitator’s use. Remind participants that the facilitator can also be acknowledged during the questioning. Choose the number of people to be inside the circle during each round and determine the order of those entering the circle before the start of the exercise.
